The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has come in as a new offering in the midsize SUV segment, with its multiple variants being launched across varying price points. The claims of Maruti Suzuki for the Grand Vitara being a practical and premium SUV for families is encouraging people to buy it. Some people have already started taking the Grand Vitara to the hills for their weekend adventures. Here, we bring a Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara equipped with a roof-mounted tent setup, which can just serve as a perfect thing for overnight camping.

A YouTube video from Nomad Adventures Overland describes the features of a new roof tent set up for Overlanding on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. In this video, the user has installed mounts and crossbars for the roof tent on the functional roof rails of the Grand Vitara and takes the SUV to Chandigarh for the installation of the roof tent setup. This roof carrier comes with a foldable canopy, which can get accommodated within the entire cover affixed on the crossbars over the roof.

The tent setup for Overlanding also comprises a flatbed, which can also get folded, but on expansion, it spreads over the width of the roof. This entire flatbed has a canopy over it, which gets two openable vents on the sides serving as windows. The flatbed can be accessed by a ladder, which is also foldable and can be folded back into the cover. This roof tent is well-equipped with cushions and mattresses and is big enough for two full-sized adults or three medium-sized people.

The all-new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara offers two engine options. The Intelligent Electric Hybrid trim gets a 1.5-litre self-charging strong hybrid powertrain. There are four different modes available with this variant – EV, Eco, Power and Normal. Maruti Suzuki claims that this variant offers best-in-class fuel efficiency of 27.97 km/l. It will offer only an e-CVT.

The Progressive Smart Hybrid trim also gets the 1.5-litre engine with features like brake energy regeneration, torque assist, and idle start-stop. It is the mild-hybrid version but has improved over the previous offerings. According to the official data, the Progressive Smart Hybrid trim returns a maximum fuel efficiency of 21.11 km/l. The mild-hybrid system offers a five-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

Maruti Suzuki has also added the Suzuki AllGrip AWD technology that will allow the new Grand Vitara to reach extreme locations. There are four modes available in the AllGrip system including – Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock. This is the only AWD vehicle available in the Maruti Suzuki model line-up at the moment.

The Grand Vitara seen in the video is the top-spec AllGrip all-wheel-drive version, which comes paired with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder K15C petrol engine.

The new Grand Vitara, along with its distant sibling, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, is the only SUV in its segment to offer the option of an all-wheel-drive system. This new variant has come in for those who want to make their weekend drives interesting by going over the roughest of the terrains with ease. However, you should also know that this all-wheel-drive system is not the proper four-wheel-drive system offered in some ladder-on-frame SUVs like Mahindra Thar and Scorpio-N.
